Frequently Asked Questions for Dental Patient Financing

What is dental financing, and how does it work?

Dental financing allows patients to pay for treatment over time through manageable monthly payments rather than paying the full cost upfront. With HFD’s dental financing solutions, patients complete a quick application, receive personalized payment plan options in minutes, and choose a plan that fits their budget—covering everything from routine cleanings to major restorative work.

Does applying for dental financing affect my credit score?

No. HFD’s application process uses only a soft credit check, which never impacts your credit score—whether you’re applying or actually funding your treatment plan. This is different from many competitors, who perform a soft check at application but switch to a hard credit pull when the financing is finalized.

What dental procedures can be financed through HFD?

HFD financing can be used for nearly any dental treatment your provider offers, including general dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, dental implants, root canals, crowns, periodontal treatment, full-mouth restorations, and orthodontics such as Invisalign. If your dentist offers HFD, you can apply financing toward the portion of treatment not covered by insurance.

How much can I finance for dental work, and what are the repayment terms?

HFD dental financing plans cover treatment costs up to $35,000, with repayment terms available up to 84 months. Patients can choose short-term plans for smaller procedures or longer-term plans for larger cases like full-mouth restorations or extensive implant work, with monthly payments structured to fit their budget.

Will I be approved for dental financing if I have bad credit?

Most likely, yes. HFD maintains a near-100% approval rate and is built to approve patients across all credit tiers—not just those with prime credit (typically 660+). Unlike many traditional lenders that only approve “good credit” applicants, HFD considers multiple factors beyond a credit score. The only common disqualifiers are an open bankruptcy, an active credit freeze, or placement on a government watchlist.

Is 0% APR dental financing actually available?

Yes. HFD offers 0% APR payment plans for approved patients, meaning you pay only the cost of your dental treatment with no added interest. This makes 0% APR financing especially valuable for higher-cost procedures like Invisalign, implants, or cosmetic dentistry where insurance coverage is limited or unavailable. Learn more about how this works on our 0% APR patient financing guide.

How do I apply for dental treatment financing?

Applying takes about two to three minutes from your phone or computer. Your dental office will send you a financing application via text or email; you’ll fill out a few basic details, and HFD will return your available payment plan options almost instantly—no waiting days for a decision.

Is dental financing through HFD different from putting treatment on a credit card?

Yes. Credit cards often carry high variable interest rates and can affect your overall credit utilization. HFD dental financing offers fixed monthly payments, clear repayment terms, and—for qualified plans—0% interest options, with no hidden fees or confusing rate structures. It’s designed specifically for healthcare costs, not general retail purchases.

Can I use dental financing for Invisalign or orthodontic treatment?

Absolutely. HFD is a preferred financing partner for Invisalign providers and offers dedicated payment plans for orthodontic treatment, helping patients manage the cost of clear aligners and other orthodontic care over time. Many patients use financing specifically to make Invisalign treatment fit their monthly budget.

What if I need financing for dental implants but have been denied elsewhere?

HFD’s underwriting looks beyond a single credit score, so patients who’ve been declined by traditional lenders or banks for dental implant financing may still qualify through HFD. During an initial pilot program, roughly 60% of approved applicants would have been rejected by traditional financing companies.

What happens if I want to cancel my dental treatment after financing is approved?

If you have concerns about your treatment or want to cancel, contact your dental provider first, since changes to the care itself must go through them. Your provider can then work with HFD to adjust or cancel your payment agreement as needed. For more details, see our patient FAQ page.

Does my dentist need to already offer HFD financing for me to use it?

HFD financing is only available through participating providers. If your dental office doesn’t currently offer HFD, you can recommend them as a partner. Visit our patient information page to learn how to suggest HFD financing to your dentist.
